Using business as a force for good

o3e Limited are proud to be certified as a B Corporation, joining a growing group of companies reinventing business by pursuing purpose. o3e has been certified by B Lab, the not-for-profit behind the B Corp movement, as having met the highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability. By committing to positively impacting all stakeholders, B Corp isn’t just an accreditation, it’s a movement of companies using business as a force for good.

The B Corp certification addresses the entirety of a business’ operations and covers five key impact areas of Governance, Workers, Community, Environment and Customers. The certification process is rigorous, with applicants required to reach a benchmark score of over 80 while providing evidence of socially and environmentally responsible practices relating to energy supplies, waste and water use, worker compensation, diversity and corporate transparency.

We are proud to be scoring high at 84. We believe that doing the right thing by people, for people and the planet is the most viable business model for all our futures and we never deviate our purpose. Find more on our environmental policy here.

Why B Corp?

o3e has been a company focused on a single purpose, creating and delivering interactive engaging team challenges that give something back to society, that businesses can use to engage with their employees, customers and stakeholders. It’s a win, win, win!

We find ourselves in a very niche place, many of the people we speak to say they have never heard of anything like it before and love the concept. However being niche makes it difficult to know where you belong.

It was important for us to test ourselves against an industry-standard which was 1) To increase our creditability, 2) Give us quality goals, 3) Meet our purpose.

We considered becoming a Social Enterprise however we did not believe self-funded business model suits the social enterprise ethos. We also looked at ISO standards, however, for a business our size, membership is prohibitively expensive.

We discovered B Corp in 2018 and whilst the qualification criteria is challenging it completely suits our purpose focussed model. Not only does the process make you think about your approach to the environment and society it also makes you focus on your day-to-day business operation. We have made many improvements to our workplace, who our suppliers are and our contractor’s welfare. Whilst we always believed we were professional, B Corp has challenged us and made us a far better organisation!

However, getting the certification is not the end of the story. Maintaining the certification and increasing our B Corp score will help us to look at improving all areas of our business. We have recently sent out a survey to all our contractors to understand their approach to their carbon footprint and the first few returns are encouraging and we can see how we can help them achieve their own aims.

We look forward to continuing our journey guided by our purpose and supported by our B Corp colleagues.

The B Corp journey doesn’t end with certification, this is where it begins. Scoring at 84.0, o3e are very proud to be a B Corp but there is always room for improvement.

Recertification is an exciting opportunity for us to strive for better and go beyond the bar we set for ourselves in 2020.  This is reflected in our Goals for 2024 which are detailed in our 2023 Impact Report.
